Sopan-santun seperti apa? Sedari kecil saya menanggap bahasa daerah itu adalah bahasa yang penuh santun. Apalagi setiap daerah mempunyai tingkatan bahasa yang cukup rumit untuk dipelajari, seperti bahasa Jawa yang mempunyai beberapa tingkatan. Semakin tinggi tingkatan bahasa tingkat kesantunannya semakin tinggi juga, berarti orang yang menuturkan mempunyai kesantunan sama seperti apa yang dituturkannya. Pernah suatu kali seorang wanita membawa kekasih prianya kerumah. Kebetulan si pria dapat mengucapkan bahasa Jawa halus dan sewaktu diperkenalkan kepada orang tua wanita ia mempergunakan itu untuk menarik simpati. Itu diluar kebiasaannya. Karena terpesona dari bahasa dan tutur kata si pria, malah sang orang tua yang lebih ngebet dari pada anaknya untuk menjalin hubungan yang lebih serius.
